Antique Japanese Ceramic Mingei Vase

Approximately Measures:

12 in X 6 inches

A charming Japanese stoneware vase with carved and over glaze dark green and aubergine enamel decoration on a yellow background circa early 20th century possibly made as a sake bottle or vase, the bottle features elongated flute lines along its body extending from the mouth rim to the shoulder. The bulbous surface displays carved design of peony, flying rooster and an apparent food container, in a Primitive fashion. Leaves with alternate green and brown enamel colors cover both the mouth and base rim. The piece appeared to be inspired by the dark Ko-Kutani palette and was crafted in a rustic Folk Art style, so called Mingei in Japanese.
